In the Western Indian Ocean, just a few degrees from the equator, lies one of the most spectacular and remote destinations on the planet. The Seychelles is a group of 115 postcard perfect granite and coral islands that offer an abundance of natural beauty with pearl white sand beaches, lush green landscapes and jungles, and an underwater world to discover on magical coral reefs. The islands are a paradise for birdwatchers, and the country’s ancient wildlife reserves are home to plants and creatures you won’t find anywhere else on earth.
Your charter will begin on the second largest island of Praslin, with a bevy of beaches to explore and at its heart a UNESCO world heritage site with an expansive natural palm tree forest. A short hop away lies the island of Curieuse where you can catch a glimpse of the protected Adabra giant tortoise, and taste the ‘sea coconut’ that’s endemic to the islands. Sail to La Digue to observe the traditional way of life that uses ox carts and bicycles as transport. The reef here offers a chance to swim with whale sharks and manta rays. Other highlights include Cousin Island where you can trek through the rainforest; Mahé where you’ll find the bustling capital city of Victoria with its bright market and Creole architecture, and don’t miss the pristine and isolated Petite Anse Beach.
The islands also have a number of gourmet restaurants where you can sample local Creole cuisine, international fare and a plethora of seafood. One of the best known is Café des Arts is on Praslin, and situated in the sand on the stunning Côte d’Or beach. Spas are also a feature at numerous resorts dotted throughout, consider a treatment at the Six Senses Spa Zil Pasyon on Félicité island, where treatment villas mingle with nature, built into the rocks amid the flora and fauna.
Paradise beaches, large granite boulders and crystal clear waters are the trademark of these exotic islands. With so much to see and do, be sure to leave plenty of time to indulge in the luxury of life onboard with the beautiful scenery around you. And let’s not forget water-sports, everything from surfing and kayaking to fly fishing and big game fishing is possible here, not to mention fabulous conditions to take advantage of all of the toys onboard your yacht.
